Why does input attenuation reduce receiver overload on the lower frequency HF bands with little or no impact on signal-to-noise ratio?
On lower HF bands, atmospheric noise is often much stronger than the receiver's own internal noise. Moderate attenuation reduces signal and external noise together with little change in overall SNR while helping prevent overload.
